About
Biography
Liselott Olofsson is an up-and-coming ceramic artist, rooted in the medieval city of Kilkenny, Ireland.
Her work is characterized by a seemingly juxtaposing blend of vulnerability and strength, fragility and stratification. Every piece derives from an immediacy to make the intangible tangible, in particular relating to grander societal and environmental issues. Experiences, opinions, statistics – first absorbing them, then sitting with them for a while, letting them process through the mind and body, and finally compressing them into tactile ceramic installations. The resulting art pieces create a space for people to gather their existing and welcome new thoughts, and talk about the themes that are being touched upon.
In 2018 Olofsson was selected for a two-month-residency in ‘Porcelain City’ Jingdezhen, China, that laid the groundwork for her 2019 exhibit ‘Bearing witness to violence against women’. Soon thereafter, she partook in a group exhibit in Vienna, Austria, with her two-piece ‘Material Earth’.
Beyond her own art practice, Olofsson actively engages in her (inter)national ceramics community as a committee member of Ceramics Ireland. Olofsson earned an honours degree in Ceramics from The National College of Art and Design (NCAD).
